Program Description

The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice is designed as a degree program to prepare students for employment in criminal justice related fields, both enforcement and non-enforcement fields. This program is also designed to enhance critical thinking skills for students and current practitioners in the criminal justice field.

Concentration

AAS Criminal Justice No Concentration, AAS in Criminal Justice concentration in Forensic Science

Humanities Requirement (3 credit hours)

Choose one concentration.

Complete ANY of the following Requirement Sets:

Criminal Justice- Criminal Justice Elective


Natural Science (3 credit hours)

Earn at least 3 credits from the following:

Criminal Justice Electives (12 credit hours)

Earn at least 12 credits from the following:

Criminal Justice- Forensic Science Concentration

Mission and Outcomes


Objective

Graduates of the Louisiana Delta Community College Criminal Justice program will be able to: (1) Identify the criminal trial process, including the impact of negotiated justice within the court system. (2) Demonstrate proficiency in research and presentation of issues related to the criminal justice field. (3) Demonstrate critical thinking skills by articulating relevant social issues, laws, and court cases related to the courts component of the criminal justice system and its impact on society. (4) Effectively associate and explain current social trends and their impact on the criminal justice system. (5) Identify special populations incarcerated in correctional facilities and issues administrators must consider, including legal liability and constitutional considerations. (6) Become a professional criminal justice practitioner able to utilize critical thinking skills in the interpretation and application of the law. (7)Identify ethical and legal factors affecting the law enforcement component of the criminal justice system.

Mission

The mission of the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice is to prepare students in our region for a career in a criminal justice related field through student-centered course offerings exploring the three components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, courts, and corrections. (1) To have an understanding of the Criminal Justice System (2) To gain knowledge of how society influences the Criminal Justice System (3) To know the relationship between each component of the Criminal Justice System
