Mission

The Medical Assistant Program will prepare graduates for entry level employment who possess the knowledge and skills to perform safe and ethical patient care in their communities. The knowledge gained will serve as the foundation for further development of technical skills and understanding of the overall health context in which our graduates will perform.

 

Program Description

This program prepares students for employment in private and large group physician’ offices, clinics, hospitals, medical records, laboratories and/or insurance companies. Supervised and/or preceptor based clinical externships are included. Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification exam for Medical Assistants.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • The student will be able to demonstrate appropriate skills required to function as a member of the healthcare team as identified by Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
  • The student will be able to prepare and maintain Electronic Health Records in order to function as a member of the health care team.
  • The student will be able to prepare and administer medications as directed by physician in order to function as a member of the health care team.
